Republican California Rep. Devin Nunes said on Fox News Sunday that if spies were targeting the Trump campaign, then it is an “absolute red line.”

WATCH:

“If they ran a spy ring or an informant ring and they were paying people within the Trump campaign–if any of that is true, that is an absolute red line.”

The Daily Caller’s Chuck Ross reported that Stefan Halper, a professor and former CIA spy, was spying on advisers to candidate Trump’s campaign. (RELATED: Cambridge Professor Spied On Trump Campaign Advisers)

Most critically, it looks like Halper’s surveillance of the Trump campaign started before the FBI opened an investigation, apparently due to George Papadopoulos bragging about Russian information on Hillary Clinton.

“If they paid someone, it’s an absolute red line, and this is over with,” Nunes also said.

“There is no possible way, that we should be allowing, even if it was legal, we should never allow this in this country. Congress should not allow for anything like this to ever occur again to any political campaign, if it in fact happened.” (RELATED: Devin Nunes Reminds Everyone How Obama Is Responsible For The Russian Threat)
