Democratic California Rep. Maxine Waters did not apologize for saying Trump officials should be harassed in public and insisted she was calling for “peaceful resistance.”

Waters held a press conference on Monday and was asked to clarify comments she made on Saturday asserting that people should push back on Trump officials. Waters said over the weekend, “If you see anybody from that cabinet in a restaurant, in department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. Tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere!” (RELATED: Maxine Waters: God Is On The Side Of People Driving Trump Officials From Restaurants)

“This is about peaceful resistance to the kind of actions that we’re experiencing from this president as he holds these children hostage,” Waters claimed during her Monday conference. “Again protesting is being done. It got started before I even made my comments, and I suspect it is going to continue.”

When asked specifically about the restaurant that asked White House press secretary Sarah Sanders to leave, Waters replied, “I’m not responsible for that” and declined to say whether or not she supports the actions of the restaurant owner.

“As I’ve said, there is going to be ongoing protests, I believe, against this administration and this president until they come up with a credible [immigration] plan that they give to the public.”
