Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is now the third-wealthiest person in the world, making him richer than Warren Buffett.

Zuckerberg, 34, has a net-worth of $81.6 billion, he’s behind only Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, who are worth $142 billion and $94.2 billion, respectively. Buffett, the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway is worth $81.2 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which tracks the richest 500 people in the world.

Despite some of the recent controversies surrounding Facebook, Zuckerberg has amassed a massive $8.8 billion in wealth so far this year. Notably, Bezos has accumulated more than $42 billion this year alone. (RELATED: Zuckerberg Admits Mishandling Controversy Surrounding Labeling Conservative Pundits ‘Dangerous’)

Buffett, once the wealthiest person in the world, has lost $4.08 billion this year so far. Bloomberg reports that this is mostly due to charitable giving, donating about 290 million Berkshire Hathaway shares mostly to the Gate’s Foundation.

All three of the world’s richest people have made their fortunes in the technology industry, with Bezos’s heading Amazon, Gates founding Microsoft, and Zuckerberg founding and leading Facebook.

Greater than any other sector, tech riches compose about one fifth of wealth tracked by the Bloomberg index — which is worth more than $5 trillion.

Individuals from the United States make up 170 of the top 500 (34 percent) wealthiest people in the world.
