President Donald Trump urged Attorney General Jeff Sessions to open investigations into FBI activities during the 2016 campaign and release requested documents to Congress without redactions.

Trump’s tweet is the latest escalation in a feud with Sessions. The president is enraged that Sessions recused himself from the investigations into Russian interference with the 2016 election and blames him for the eventual appointment of the special counsel.

Trump trashed Sessions in a recent interview on Fox News saying “I put in an attorney general that never took control of the Justice Department, Jeff Sessions,” adding “he took the job and then he said, ‘I’m going to recuse myself,’” the president said. “I said, ‘What kind of man is this?’ And by the way, he was on the campaign. The only reason I gave him the job, I felt loyalty. He was an original supporter.”

Sessions responded that “I took control of the DOJ the day I was sworn in” and that “while I’m attorney general the actions of the Department of Justice will not be improperly influenced by political consideration.”
