The ranching industry is joining the effort to push senators to confirm President Donald Trump’s second appointment to the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh.

The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) and the Public Lands Council (PLC) — two agricultural interest groups speaking on behalf of U.S. ranchers — endorsed Kavanaugh to take the place of retired Justice Anthony Kennedy. (RELATED: This Potential Supreme Court Pick Put A Serious Damper On EPA Power Grabs)

“NCBA and PLC support Judge Kavanaugh’s swift confirmation to the Supreme Court because his tenure on the DC Circuit provides an exemplary record of objective legal review,” a joint letter obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation said. The letter was sent to the Senate Thursday.

“America’s cattle producers rely on clarity in the law and objectivity in its application, which allows them to operate their businesses efficiently and effectively,” the letter said. “Judge Kavanaugh exhibits a key quality of a Supreme Court justice – the ability to rule on the law, rather than the facts of a specific case. This is vital to ensuring continuity and providing assurance to America’s cattle producers.”

Kavanaugh’s impending confirmation hearing has drawn strong responses from both sides. Environmentalists, which often class with the cattle industry, have dedicated hundreds of thousands of dollars to campaigning against Kavanaugh.

“With the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, Trump has nominated an individual whose record shows he will side with the wealthy and powerful over the public interest,” League of Conservation Voters president Gene Karpinski said in a statement after Trump announced Kavanaugh’s nomination. “Kavanaugh has consistently come down on the side of Big Polluters instead of protecting clean water and clean air for all.”
