Is it possible to defend Keith Olbermann and Sean Hannity at the same time? (more)
Our favorite news commentator, Keith Olbermann, comes back tonight after being briefly suspended by MSNBC for donating to Democratic candidates — a violation of MSNBC standards. When Olbermann’s suspension was announced, it was said Olbermann would be out “indefinitely.” Luckily for us — our Friday and Monday nights were utterly barren without Keith — he’ll be back hosting “Countdown” tonight after just missing two episodes. HARRISBURG – At 5:30 p.m. on Election Day, you could catch him live on Hardball With Chris Matthews on MSNBC. (more)
Election week on “Countdown”! I’ll give you three guesses as to whether it ended in elation or a splitting headache. Or perhaps it ended with the revelation just this morning on Politico that Olbermann made three $2,400 contributions in the recent election, violating both NBC policy and basic principles of journalism. One donation, to Arizona representative Raul Grijalva, took place on the same day Grijalva appeared on “Countdown.” The other donations went to Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway and another Arizona representative, Gabrielle Giffords. (You will definitely want to read this.) But meanwhile, here’s the week that was: (more)
On Election Night, ABC News grabbed headlines by hiring (and later dismissing) conservative Andrew Breitbart, MSNBC stacked its Election-Night panel with opinion hosts, and CNN was busy trying to find chairs for all of its 24— yes, 24!— in-studio experts. Meanwhile, Fox’s more low-key newscast garnered the biggest ratings of the night, and praise for its balance. (more)
Democrat Jack Conway ran into trouble defending his accusations against Kentucky Senate challenger Republican Rand Paul on MSNBC’s “Hardball” Monday night, with host Chris Matthews drilling Conway for a campaign ad attacking Paul. (more)
This week in “Countdown” taught us that Keith Olbermann is brilliant and everyone else — women, religious people, Rupert Murdoch — is vile and/or stupid. (more)
Katie Couric might end up back on the “Today” show when her “CBS Evening News” contract expires at the end of May. A spot will be open because Meredith Vieira is expected to leave “Today” to spend more time with her family. Sources say Couric had been talking with her old friend Jeff Zucker, her producer at “Today” before he rose to CEO of NBC-Universal. (more)
Lawrence O’Donnell has served as chief of staff of the Senate Finance Committee under the late Democratic New York Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, a writer for “The West Wing,” an actor on “Big Love,” and a columnist for New York magazine. He has been on MSNBC’s payroll in some capacity since its 1996 launch, and recently has been sitting in as Keith Olbermann’s frequent substitute host for “Countdown,” which airs at 8 p.m., and, until this week, reran at 10. On Monday night, O’Donnell got his own show. (more)
What a week for “Countdown”! Approximately 97 segments about Christine O’Donnell, a song about Christine O’Donnell, and one hilariously bone-headed non-Christine-O’Donnell-related mistake. (Skip to Tuesday to check it out.) (more)
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 10: Tonight, Keith Olbermann joined everyone on Facebook and Twitter in getting a kick out of an Ohioan Phil Davison’s speech in support of his nomination to the GOP candidacy for county treasurer. Davison paces and shouts with dictatorial fervor about his master’s degree in communications and his intentions to change things in Stark County. If you think irrationally angry people are funny — which I’m guessing you do because you’re reading a column about Keith Olbermann — you probably got a kick out of it. Here’s how Keith described it: (more)
Keith Olbermann has a thin skin. This week, he brazenly showed off that skin on the air – but only metaphorically, thank God. Keith, you tease! (more)
The last week of summer tends to present an unusually small number of things to be angry about. All over America, people take time off work and drive to the beach and try not to think about the coming fall. We read fat novels, enjoy our families and soak up the sun. And although it’s hard to say what’s cause and what’s effect, the world itself tends to comply with this sleepy mood, and the news seems to get slower and less consequential before returning full blast after Labor Day. It’s a hot, lazy and happy time for most of us. (more)
Keith “Uberdork” Olbermann was showing off a new brunette girlfriend at Monday night’s Yankees game. The bombastic MSNBC commentator was spotted by our spy “with his arm round the woman, who looked a lot younger than him, in her early 30s. He was taking pictures of them together on his cellphone and chatting to her throughout the game,” (more)
Last week I made a good-faith effort to find things to love about Keith Olbermann. Good thing I got that out of the way, because this week was rough. (more)
Week after week, I come here to bury Keith Olbermann, not to praise him. I mock his opinions, his verbal tics, his pompous demeanor and his orange face. But just for kicks, I’m going to try something different this week and see if I can find something to celebrate about this sad, angry little man who is wrong about everything.
