An impressive theory is floating around Reddit claiming Tim Tebow is the direct reason Alabama has become so good.

I know, it sounds like a bizarre thing to say, but it actually makes a lot of sense once you read it.

User “SnthonyAtark” wrote the following:

In 2006, Tim Tebow committed to Urban Meyer’s Florida over Mike Shula’s Alabama. This resulted in two Florida national championships in 2006 and 2008 while Alabama went 6-6 and fired Shula, resulting in Nick Saban getting hired and the rest is history.

But what if Tebow went to Alabama instead? My theory is that Tebow have been good enough to get Alabama going 9-3 or 8-4 instead of 6-6, and Tebow would cover up the lack of good coaching with his talent at QB, so Shula wouldn’t have been fired, and Saban would’ve been hired elsewhere. What do you guys think?

So, here’s the thing, I asked intern Will if he agreed with this take as an Alabama fan. He said he absolutely agreed with it. You know something has teeth if even Alabama fans are buying this. (RELATED: The Latest AP College Football Poll Is Here. Number Four Won’t Make SEC Fans Happy)

Alabama doesn’t tolerate losing. That’s a fact. Tebow had more than enough talent as a college QB to make the Tide a hell of a lot more successful than they were under Shula. That is a stone-cold fact. If he plays for Alabama instead of Florida, I think it’s more than fair to say they would have been vastly better.

Good teams don’t fire their coaches, and Saban wouldn’t have had an opening to take. I’ll even go one step further. Saban was on the fast track of losing his job with the Dolphins. If he had been fired, would any major college program have touched him? Probably not for awhile. There wouldn’t have likely been a dynasty anywhere. Saban just could have been a footnote in the past decade.

I just put all your brains into a pretzel didn’t I? Alabama fans might hate Florida, but they can thank Tim Tebow for all their success. What a wild world to be living in.
