Britney Spears announced Friday that she was taking an “indefinite work hiatus” and canceling her upcoming shows in Las Vegas due to her father’s life-threatening health issues.

“I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart,” the 37-year-old pop star tweeted to her millions of followers, along with a snap shot of her with family.  (SLIDESHOW: The Sexiest Looks From The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show)

“However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make,” she added in a second post. “A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him.”

The “Oops!… I Did It Again” singer then explained that making the decision to cancel her show was a difficult one, but she needs to put her “full focus and energy” on her family at this time. She then thanked her fans for all the “prayers and support” for her family as they dealt with her father’s condition and recovery.

In addition to the tweets, Spears posted a link to a statement on her official website which explained in further detail about canceling the singer’s “run at Park Theater at the new Park MGM resort in Las Vegas until further notice”

“I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family. We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me,” the “Toxic” hitmaker shared. “Thank you to all my fans for your continued love and support during this time. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and I look forward to the time when I can be back on stage performing for all of you.”

The “Baby One More Time” singer — who always looks amazing — made headlines recently after her ex-Kevin Federline took her back to court for an increase in child support payments. A judge, at the time, ordered the pop star to pay an additional $110,000 in their ongoing child support issues.
