The eyes of the college football world are on Wisconsin’s quarterback battle between Graham Mertz and Jack Coan.

Sports Illustrated listed the biggest storylines for the upcoming season, and the man under center for Wisconsin was on the list. (RELATED: Wisconsin 2019 Football Expectations: Can The Badgers Get 10 Or More Wins?)

The popular publication wrote the following in part when discussing the situation:

Coach Paul Chryst hasn’t said who will replace him [Alex Hornibrook], but he has two strong options: junior Jack Coan, who started four games last year, and freshman Graham Mertz, whom ESPN rated the No. 1 pocket passer and No. 21 recruit in the class of 2019.

Well, I’ve been saying this for months, and I hope you all have been listening. The Badgers season will thrive or die depending on who gets under center for the Badgers. It’s that simple.

If we get solid quarterback play, then we’re going to be rolling in 2019. If not, we could be in for another disaster of a season.

Luckily, we know Coan is solid enough if we need him to play while Mertz gets ready. As for the freshman phenom, his hype speaks for itself. The young man knows how to spin the rock.

As you all already know, I’m big on Mertz getting under center as soon as possible. I don’t have anything against Coan.

If we need to ride with him for a bit, then so be it. He’s not going to lose us games, but I’m not sure his arm is going to elevate the program to the next level.

Mertz was the top recruit at his position. He’s the exact kind of player we need to really crank things up.

We’re under two months away from kickoff against USF. I’ll be ready, and I know the whole state is with me. It’s going to be fascinating to see who Paul Chryst sends out to take the first snap of the season.

Clearly, football fans everywhere are watching.
