Les Miles won’t say when he expects Kansas to play in a New Year’s 6 bowl.
The Jayhawks head coach, who previously coached at LSU, said at Big 12 media days Monday that the team needs to just focus on making a bowl before focusing on a big one, according to Brett McMurphy. (RELATED: July Is The Final Month Of 2019 Without College Football)
Les Miles just asked how long it will take Kansas to get to a New Year’s 6 bowl. Jayhawks need to get to a bowl first. Period.

He also added Kansas “is much more talented” than the record would indicate.
Les Miles: “We have a better talent base here at Kansas then when I went to Oklahoma State (in 2001). This Kansas team is much more talented than their record shows”

I’m all in on Les Miles coaching at Kansas, but let’s not assume they’ll ever play in a New Year’s 6 bowl.
Generally speaking, those bowl games are reserved for teams that are actually competitive. Kansas has been a train wreck for years at this point, and I’m not convinced Miles by himself can save them.
Don’t get me wrong. He’s a great coach, but you’re pretty much asking a brain surgeon to defuse a nuke at this point. That’s how bad Kansas’ program is.

Now, there’s a great chance Miles improves Kansas, but it’d be almost impossible to get much worse at this point.
They’ve won a grand total of six games in the past four years. They’re getting smacked around on a regular basis.
Miles is a great coach, and if he can’t improve them at all, then it might be time to just shut the whole thing down.

The season is about a month and a half away. Kansas will absolutely be one of the teams to follow this season, and Les Miles is a major reason why.
