Navy football coach Ken Niumatalolo is not happy with Air Force being eligible to play for the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy.
Air Force will only play Navy and Army in football this fall, while both other service academies will play actual schedules. Despite that fact, Air Force could win the CIC Trophy if they go 2-0. That doesn’t make the man running the Midshipmen very happy with the people at the Pentagon who made the call. Niumatalolo told the press the following Monday, according to ESPN:
Where else in the country would you play for something of value and everybody’s schedules are not the same? This is the number thing we fight for every year — the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy. We’re playing a full schedule. You got Air Force playing just two games? I don’t think those people care…This is above us. This is guys at the Pentagon making decisions. I have no idea where they’re getting their data from. They didn’t get it from me, so they’re not getting any football data. Like I said, nobody asked me.
Honestly, I’m not sure how you could disagree with Niumatalolo on this one. I support the military, and love the fact our service academies play football.
Yet, the fact the Falcons can win the CIC Trophy after an entire season of rest and two games is laughably stupid.

If they’re not going to play an actual slate of games, then they 100% shouldn’t be allowed to win the trophy. It’s that simple.
You can’t let a team come off of weeks and weeks of rest and compete against two programs playing weekly and call it fair.
It’s definitely not, and nobody is going to take it seriously.

Either play a full slate or don’t play. The fact that this is some middle of the road situation is incredibly stupid.
