Woman’s car lost after police move vehicles for security near Obama speech

Martena Clinton drove to the Congressional Black Caucus dinner at the Washington Convention Center on Saturday with high expectations. A friend had arranged a ticket, and Clinton wore a special diamond pendant over her black dress. She parked in a handicapped spot close to the intersection of 9th Street and Mount Vernon Place and glanced in the mirror. She decided the diamond pendant didn’t go with her dress, took it off and put it in a console.

She displayed a handicapped tag prominently, locked her car and checked with a police officer who happened to be parked right behind her. He assured her the spot was legal. Clinton put her credit cards, cash and makeup in a pocketbook and left it in the trunk, carrying a small purse into the dinner. It was 5:30 p.m.

When she emerged from the dinner at 11:30 p.m., her black 1994 Lexus was gone.

The police officer who responded to Clinton’s distressed call told her that the Secret Service had done what many Washingtonians have grown begrudgingly used to: They ordered numerous cars removed from the area as a security precaution because President Obama was speaking at the dinner.

    Regarding the handicap hanging permit. I have one. I’m in a wheelchair about 70% of the time. (Car Wreck 5 yrs ago)… On bad days, I don’t go anywhere.. On good days, I go and my husband is driving me. Depending on the location, sometimes we use the permit but more often, he drops me at the door and I wait… WHY?…. because there is likely someone out there, who may not have assistance, that really NEEDS it.

    In regard to the car… I’d be PISSED if I were her too. If security can’t rope-off enough area for the Messiah’s entrance, thats THEIR problem. They need to leave PRIVATE PROPERTY ALONE!

    My sister lives in Stafford, a suburb of DC, and I can’t for the life of me understand how they put up with the crap they put up with!

    That first cop shouldn’t have allowed her to park the car there. Hangtags are only supposed to be used by handicapped people. People like this lady are why truly handicapped people get the stink-eye if they don’t look “sick enough”, such folks afflicted with MS or rheumatoid arthritis.

    Having said that, I hope I look that good when I’m 64. I wish I looked THAT good right now!!

    Typical DC Entitlement Queen…. She used a handicapped sticker that she shouldn’t have been using and now she’s whining…. Serves her right… I hope its been stripped.

    Are you kidding me? This is a STORY???? WTF? Only so they can write that some woman was “mistreated” by Obama. Who does the Daily Caller think their readership is? Only a bunch of 5 year old Tea Partiers?

          Did the government loose the car? Did they move it for Obama? I know your logic runs something like this; one way to a colorblind society is to ask for “race” on every official form. Another way is to add points for certain races on civil service exams and to use different cutoffs for different races on things like ACT, SAT, and LSAT scores when deciding whom to accept in educational institutions but please think before you type.

    I have no sympathy for this woman. If you read the whole article, she parked in a handicapped spot. She has a handicapped tag which she said she displayed prominently… well, lets see… she is not handicapped… she had the tag because her husband had suffered a stroke. WTF? You mean if you had a stroke, you get a tag and anyone can use it to park in a handicapped spot?
    How about real handicapped people?
    Screw this woman and I hope they don’t find the car… it would be karma.
