Lou Dobbs denies hiring illegal immigrants

(CNN) — Former CNN anchor Lou Dobbs said Thursday said neither he nor his companies have ever hired illegal immigrants and it was not his responsibility to check their papers.

Dobbs challenged an online article accusing him of hiring contractors who employ illegal immigrants on his properties.

During his afternoon show on WOR NewsTalk Radio 710 in New York, he and Isabel Macdonald, author of The Nation piece, debated what he should have done to ensure the workers were in the United States legally.

Dobbs, who left CNN in November 2009, repeatedly asked Macdonald whether he or his companies had ever hired an illegal immigrant.

“No,” she said.

I thought the left would think this was good thing to do. They are here for jobs, he gave them one.

The recent events are really only going to accomplish one thing: make employers fearful of hiring ANYONE they suspect could be an illegal. We’ve seen from the Whitman saga that even though they did all the right things to protect themselves, they were duped. How can you know for sure that someone is telling the truth if you can’t ask them a direct question, or you can’t immediately verify their records? I don’t own a business, but if I did, I would probably not hire someone if I thought there was even the slightest possibility that they were here illegally.

The rich are against illegal immigration, just don’t take away any of their servants.
Dobbs is typical of the gasbag right. Do as he says, not as he does.

Just like all the anti-gay preachers on the right who end up getting busted with their meth-induced hard-ons and gay “massage partners.”

Get over yourselves, righties. You spend your entire day pointing fingers and judging everyone else.

Good for The Nation for digging up this up on old Lou.
As if Dobbs had any remaining credibility.

Read the article. Dobbs was completely correct. He followed both the letter, and “spirit” of the law. If had probed deeper, he would have been in violation.

In this case, an absolute “hit” piece. The damage is done though…as usual, the media is NOT covering Mr. Dobbs rebuttal, nor making it clear that Mr Dobbs was completely in the right. Only the false claim is being reported.

The problem doesn’t just lie with the media, but also with those many of those at this site think are their buddies.

Since this morning, I’ve written two blog posts about this (like this one about Brian Stelter of the New York Times), tweeted a couple dozen tweets, and left a dozen or so comments on various sites. And, I don’t even like Dobbs anymore due to his post-CNN conversion (to supporting amnesty).

However, I realize that the people attacking him are the bad guys, those who help the corrupt establishment profit from massive illegal activity.

At the same time, the major r/w bloggers have done little or nothing, despite this being a good opportunity to oppose those they claim to oppose. And, the teaparty types (and smart girl politics types) have done almost zero, despite – once again – this being a good opportunity to oppose those they claim to oppose.

Now, I realize everyone can’t be everywhere at all times, but you might expect at least some of the rightwing bloggers and teaparty/sgp types to take this opportunity to oppose those they claim to oppose. Yet, they’re silent. Whose side are they on really?

How would Mr. Dobbs know if he hired an illegal?

    Employment-discrimination law forbids asking!

      “Employment-discrimination law forbids asking!”

The trend seems to be that they totally ignore material facts when writing hit pieces.

What b.s. What, he’s supposed to be the immigration cop for someone else’s company? If we use that metric we would find ourselves in a situation where liberals would have to be responsible for the consequences of their own decisions. We know we can’t have that?

  • teapartypatriot

Once the lunatic-left d-crat socialists and their stooges in the lamestream socialist fake-news media come up with a slime attack (as hey did against Meg Whitman in CA), their eco-nut nature kicks in and they recycle the slime again and again and again against everybody that opposes their extremism.

    • PolyIndependent

Wow, that is probably one of the dumbest posts I’ve ever read. Can you fit anymore idiotic (and meaningless) catch-phrases in there? What’s funny is that I think I agree with what I’m assuming to be your opinion – that this type of “journalism” is as pointless as masturbation. But, come on, try talking in something other than politically/emotionally inflammatory buzz words. You’re acting as poorly as those that consider this type of story to be relevant and important.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.

I think there’s a valid point in there somewhere but it’s obscured by all the name calling.
