Teabaggers spew vitriol at women and black people. Wait, did I say teabaggers? I meant liberals.

Recently we were treated to the spectacle of our moral, ethical, and intellectual superiors on the left wishing the following for a black man: “put him back in the fields,” “cut off his toes one by one and feed them to him,” and “string him up.” But that was just a few random protesters, of course. If you want to hear some real hate speech, you need to consult the professionals.

Our own Steven Nelson reports:

Left-wing journalist Nir Rosen joked today about the sexual assault of CBS News’ chief foreign correspondent Lara Logan. Logan was assaulted on Friday during celebrations in Cairo that followed Hosni Mubarak’s resignation.

The initial tweet by Rosen stated, “Lara Logan had to outdo Anderson. Where was her buddy McCrystal.” From this tweet he went further, writing that he would have been amused if Anderson Cooper had also been sexually assaulted.

“Yes yes its wrong what happened to her. Of course. I don’t support that. But, it would have been funny if it happened to Anderson too,” wrote Rosen.

Rosen didn’t stop there, wondering if Logan made up the assault, and if not, opining that she deserved it for being a “war monger.” After being widely condemned for this garbage, Rosen backpedalled like Lance Armstrong on rewind:

As someone who’s devoted his career to defending victims and supporting justice, I’m very ashamed for my insensitive and offensive comments… on the job you get used to making jokes about our own death, other people’s deaths, horrors, you forget that you sound like a dick at home… to the 500 people new twitter followers and the old ones. I did not mean it and i apologize again. it was an inappropriate unaccetable [sic] joke… but there is no point following me, i am done tweeting. too ashamed of how i have hurt others and the false impression i gave of who i am…

It sounds to me like Nir Rosen isn’t the man he thinks he is.

And this isn’t just some random creep. According to Rosen’s website, he’s written for Time, Rolling Stone, the Washington Post, the New York Times, and many other publications that are widely considered respectable. Simon & Schuster published his book, The Triumph of the Martyrs: A Reporter’s Journey into Occupied Iraq. He’s an established media professional. And yet he didn’t think twice about behaving no better than Debbie Schlussel.

Elsewhere in the world of liberal hate speech, we have someone calling himself Chauncey DeVega. He really doesn’t like Herman Cain, and he unleashed his anger to the readers of AlterNet:

In the immortal words of Megatron in Transformers: The Movie, Herman Cain’s speech at CPAC really is bad comedy. As you know, I find black garbage pail kids black conservatives fascinating not because of what they believe, but rather because of how they entertain and perform for their White Conservative masters.

A Transformers reference and a strikethrough joke in the same opening paragraph might seem a bit much, but you just can’t handle the truth. Chauncey continues:

When race minstrelsy was America’s most popular form of mass entertainment, black actors would often have to pretend to be white men, who then in turn would put on the cork to play the role of the “black” coon, Sambo, or Jumping Jim Crow. Adding insult to injury, in a truly perverse and twisted example of the power of American white supremacy black vaudevillians would often pretend to be white in order to denigrate black people for the pleasures of the white gaze…

Let’s consider the routine. First, Cain enters the stage to Motown music. Then Cain feigns swimming after rolling up his sleeves to show them his black skin and how he is a hardworking negro (not like those other ones). Cain bellows in a preacher affected voice and channels the folksy negro down home accent of his late grandpappy. In the money shot, Cain gives the obligatory “black folks who are not Republicans are on the plantation” speech to the joyous applause of his White benefactors. And he doubles down by legitimating any opposition to President Barack Obama as virtuous and patriotic regardless of the bigoted well-springs from which it may flow.

Yes, I’m glad Herman Cain rolled up his sleeves, or I wouldn’t be able to discern his skin color. Also, if you disagree with Obama you’re a bigot, because Obama is black. Good to know!

DeVega’s triumphant closing statement:

We always need a monkey in the window, for he/she reminds us of our humanity while simultaneously reinforcing a sense of our own superiority. Sadly, there are always folks who are willing to play that role because it pays so well.

Brilliant. DeVega boasts about writing for the NY Times, the Utne Reader, and the Atlantic Monthly. Are you seeing a pattern here?

The point isn’t that all liberals are racists and misogynists. That’s just not mathematically plausible. But the ones who are racists and misogynists get a pass from their fellow libs because they’re fighting the good fight. They’re on the side of the angels. And if that means mocking the occasional rape victim, or calling a black guy a “monkey” and a “minstrel” and a “black garbage pail kid” for daring to disagree with you politically?

Hey, these things happen.

P.S. Mike Riggs has more.
