Bachmann explains her Revolutionary War gaffe, calls out media double standard for Obama gaffes

Is there a double standard for conservatives when it comes to criticism of their public speaking missteps compared to liberals?

Take for example Politico and its 800-plus word treatise on Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann’s gaffe, written by Jonathan Martin and Kendra Marr on Saturday. They had every possible angle covered. However, flash back to May 2008 when Martin filed a post about President Barack Obama’s 57-state gaffe — it wasn’t quite as in depth (video + 17 words).

That’s the sort of double standard Bachmann questioned on Laura Ingraham’s radio show on Tuesday when she explained her gaffe, in which she confused New Hampshire with Massachusetts as where the opening shots of the Revolutionary War took place, to fill-in host Raymond Arroyo.

“I was up in New Hampshire speaking and the marvelously thing about New Hampshire is that they’re still proud of that battle,” she said. “They sent a number of people from their militia down to it. And I made a mistake. I should’ve said Massachusetts rather than New Hampshire. But you know, that’s the way it goes and we had a great trip and I was glad to be able to be there.”

But Bachmann asked why the media didn’t rake Obama over the coals for his memorable blunders that have occurred over the last three years.

“[W]e all know that there’s a double standard in the media,” Bachmann said. “And of course when President Obama said that there had been a tornado in Kansas and 10,000 had been killed that wasn’t considered newsworthy when he was campaigning for president, and then he said he was in 57 states and he was on his way to the 58th, and of course that wasn’t considered newsworthy because as we all know, the 3,400 members of the mainstream media are a part of the Obama press contingent. And this is just what we get. So it doesn’t matter which conservative is out there, if an error is made in any way that is what is stated. They didn’t talk about the great crowd, the standing ovation or the wonderful time that we had in New Hampshire and that is just the way it goes. I think that is what we as conservatives understand.”

Bachmann also responded to Washington post columnist George Will’s comments on ABC’s “This Week” last Sunday that she wasn’t a serious contender for the presidency.

“I have a great deal of respect for George F. Will and I think what is opinion is — is that I have not come out and put together a team where I am seriously considering and contemplating a run for the presidency,” she said. “And I have not made a decision either way whether I’m in or whether I’m out.”

Finally accepting thier many gaffes such as Michele Bachmans latest and the fact they are obviously not perfect, the Tea Party is attempting to appeal to the American Idol Demographic with a music video!!!
The Michelle Bachman Trio sings “We Know We Weren’t Perfect.

The best way to be is to stop making those dumb mistakes and stop complaining. Both make Michelle look bad. Make a mistake apologize and move on. Do not complain. No one is going to comeover to you column because of that.If that were true, Repubs would be sweeping elections all the time.

    hey neverbehonest

once again you have been proven you have no idea what you are talking about.

don’t you ever get sick of being proven a liar.

  • loudog

Extra funny when the self-proclaimed “real Americans” and defenders of the constitution don’t even understand the document or the history of the country.

    • ladylove

      and you do

when over, and over, and over you too, are proven wrong.

Truebearing once posted at another site about Obama greeting himself from the teleprompter. I was in stitches for a week. I wish I had of seen the speech but nonetheless, it just struck me as aboslutely hysterical!

Bachmann should’ve said, “Well look, I haven’t spent much time in Kennebunkport, Massachusetts so I don’t really know much about the New York Yankees playing at their homefield, Fenway Park. Don’t blame me if the New England Patriots kicked Larry Byrd off the team and it isn’t my fault that Cambridge keeps pumping out extreme leftwingers at Hartford Law School. Now leave me alone. I’m going to take a nap at my hotel in Nantucket, Vermont.”

    • truebearing

Now that you mention it, I do remember that. Only an orator as gifted, and narcissistic, as Obama would greet himself while reading a teleprompter. Any day I expect the Whitehouse to install a full length mirror to go with the teleprompters. Then he can flirt with himself while he ogles his own wonderfulness!

“Japan has turned into a giant mushroom cloud, and deadly radiation is blowing straight at California? Don’t interrupt me, I’m speaking to my loved one, ME!”

      • esby

Especially since we know Michele Bachmann is an expert with a teleprompter. Maybe Jan Brewer could give her some pointers.

WAAHHHHH!!! My name is Sarah Palin, the Quitter, and the media tries to bring my little families private affairs into the public square, when I just have a reality show!! WAAAHHHHH!!! My name is Michelle Bachmann, and the mean nasty media points out what a brainless automaton I am!! WAHHHHHHHH!

    • The_anniebanannie

“Waaaaaaa Waaaaaaaa my nickname is jmk and I’m a troll. All I do is troll around and post hate-filled comments about Palin. Waaaaa Waaaaa! Somebody help me with my PDS!!! WAAAAAAAA”

  • Jeugenen

An urgent call to arms by Bachmann would bring millions of armed militia revolutionaries onto the streets across America, within 24 hours, in accordance with the American Constitution, as intended by Thomas Jefferson – in these times of tyrannical constitutional treason by elected leaders.

    • leilani

Yawn. Please take your tedious sockpuppet show elsewhere “jeugenen”. Nobody’s buying your ruse to paint all Tea Partiers & conservatives as crazed bigoted nutbags ready to start an armed rebellion by portraying yourself as every leftist’s ignorant bigoted stereotype of a non-leftist, ya know.

But if you’re a sockpuppet trying to make all leftists sockpuppets look inept by being so over-the-top obvious about it, I don’t know what to tell ya. Carry on, I guess?

It’s not a good indicator of effectiveness when no one can tell what the writer means. Maybe we have another dedicated proponent of incoherence. Like we need more of those.

        • clw

Boy are WE on the same page! Mind-meld… I read it, and re-read it, and re-re-read it. Still coudn’t understand the point. AT ALL.

  • centexan

Of course there’s a double standard. That’s why you have to be overly cautious about what you say. I really like Bachmann, but I sure hope she has put a speech writer on notice about fact checking.

O’bomb-a-nation, Teleprompter-in-chief is king of gaffes. He gave us the Austrian language, the 57 states, cinco de quatro, 3000% savings for Obama care, and his bowling ability qualifying himself for the Special Olympics.
He pleaded ignorance of the Hanford, Oregon clean up site even though as Senator Obama he voted on at least one authorization bill concerning this site. Let’s just say he is not focused (he is the president for God’s sake).
In Dreams of My Father he claims at the age of 9 he was awakened racially when
he read a Life magazine article and saw a picture of a black man who tried to
alter the color of his skin. Life magazine historians say the article and
pictures do not exist, just like all the historical and biographical material available publicly for this president of the United States. In 2007 on the anniversary of the Selma, Alabama march he claime his mixed race birth in 1961 was inspired by the 1965 march. Numbers are definitely a problem. Lamenting
about a kansas tornado, Mr. Obama decried the loss of ten thousand people (actually 12 died). I am leaving out the spelling, pronunciation, lack of general knowledge, underhanded tactics and actual lies and all the obfuscations and misinformation this president is responsible for.

With as much travel and as many stops, I can give anyone a pass once or twice. Is there any one of us who has not misspoken when tired or stressed? Liberal politicians (especially Obama) are given unlimited passes(Biden is a good example). Conservatives are given NO passes. The lamestream liberal press is always waiting with bated breath for the slightest inaccuracy or misinformation.
