SC Gov. Nikki Haley responds to third Democratic Nazi comparison this week
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — South Carolina Republican Gov. Nikki Haley did not hold back Wednesday afternoon during a Republican counter-convention press conference at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, after South Carolina Democratic Party chairman Dick Harpootlian compared her to Adolf Hitler’s mistress Eva Braun.
“Dick Harpootlian is an angry, hateful man that continues to embarrass South Carolina every time he opens his mouth,” Haley said of Harpootlian.
Harpootlian made his comments Wednesday morning, addressing the fact that Haley and other Republicans have been holding their press events in a basement studio at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
“She was down in the bunker a la Eva Braun,” he said.
Haley, who primarily spoke at the press conference about the need to address the economy and help small businesses, said Harpootlian’s comments were “unfortunate.”
“I am spending everyday trying to tell South Carolinians and the rest of the country why we should be proud of the state, and he spends every day trying to diminish that so it is just unfortunate,” she said.
Harpootlian was the third Democrat this week to apply a Nazi comparison to the GOP.
Kansas Democratic Labor Committee president Pat Lehman said Wednesday that Republicans are lying about voted ID laws. “It’s like Hitler said, if you’re going to tell a lie, tell a big lie,” she told The Wichita Eagle.
Earlier in the week California Democratic Party chairman John Burton compared Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan to Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels. (RELATED: Calif. Dem. chair John Burton’s past includes sexual harassment, bookmaking, cursing ‘more than a West Coast rapper’)
