PayPal co-founder and Facebook investor Peter Thiel still thinks there’s “probably a lot of pot-smoking going on” at Twitter, but that doesn’t mean its execs can’t “still have a great company.”

In an interview published Monday on Business Insider, Thiel qualified the remarks he made during an interview last week, during which he described Twitter as “horribly mismanaged” as a result of executives’ over-indulgence in marijuana. (RELATED: PayPal Co-Founder Says Twitter Is ‘Horribly Mismanaged’ Because of Execs ‘Pot-Smoking’)

“Twitter has a fantastic business model. When you get companies with that robust a monopoly, and that strong a business model, they can often get away with being quite mismanaged,” Thiel said. “You could smoke a lot of pot and still have a great company, if the business model is as robust as Twitter’s.”

The report suggests Thiel may have come to his conclusion based on a chapter in Nick Bilton’s book “Hatching Twitter,” which describes a Snoop Dogg visit to Twitter HQ in 2011, complete with jams and Mary Jane.

“They ended up smoking weed and holding an impromptu dance party,” Bilton wrote.
