An Audi RS7 equipped with the company’s “piloted driving” system claimed the crown of “fastest autonomous car on the planet” over the weekend, reaching speeds up to 149 mph on Germany’s Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg race track.

The 560-horsepower RS7 rounded the circuit’s high-speed turns at full throttle, guided by high-tech GPS and three-dimensional cameras — a demonstration undoubtedly meant to show that if Audi’s autopilot can handle Hockenheimring at top speed, it can certainly handle highways.
