Ted Cruz raised $4.3 million dollars in a little over a week after he announced his campaign for president.

The Republican’s campaign announced Thursday the fundraising numbers for the reporting period ending in March, eight days after he entered the race. The campaign said 51,081 contributions were made by individual donors across all 50 states.

“We are incredibly encouraged by the wave of support our campaign has received since Ted announced his candidacy just over three weeks ago,” said Jeff Roe, Cruz’s campaign manager.

Cruz also transferred $250,012.93 from his Senate campaign committee.

It’s no surprise that Cruz is able to tap into the grassroots for small donations: his campaign says 95 percent of contributions were less than $100. But his campaign also says more than 300 people gave the maximum of $2,700.
