Already this week, and in spite of a curious outpouring of shock from Russia, Florida high school English teacher Jennifer Fichter has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for having a bunch of sex with three different male teenagers.
Now, three more female teachers have been sentenced or are facing sentences in various criminal courts for having sex with one or more male students.
The prison terms vary wildly.
In small-town northern New Jersey, suspended West Morris Mendham High School English teacher Nicole McDonough faces three counts of second-degree official misconduct for engaging in sex romps with three male students in 2013 and 2014.
McDonough, now 32, faces a mandatory five-year prison sentence if she is found guilty, reports NJ Advance Media.
McDonough was reportedly married at the time of the encounters. She has two young children (ages six and three). The father of the children is a heroin addict who provides “no support,” her attorney has said. McDonough’s own father has cancer.
The official misconduct charges against McDonough are not sex crimes. Nevertheless, prosecutors in the case refused this week to allow the teacher to enter a probationary program.
McDonough’s attorney, Timothy Smith, has consistently argued that his client is innocent and, in any case, sexual trysts with 18-year-old males don’t amount to crimes under New Jersey law. (RELATED: Hot English Teacher’s Attorney: Sex With 18-Year-Old Male Student Is Not A Crime)
“If ever there was a victimless crime, this is it,” Smith told the court this week, according to NJ Advance Media.
The lawyer also observed that the three male students “have each said they have not felt victimized” by having sex — allegedly — with McDonough.
“The government is attempting to criminalize school district policies,” Smith told the judge in the case.
Meanwhile, in Kaysville, Utah, a judge sentenced former Davis High School English teacher Brianne Altice to up to 30 years in prison for having sex with three male teen students.
Altice, 35, pleaded guilty to the charges against her. Her court case has been ongoing since October 2013.
On Thursday, she delivered a tearful apology in open court in the hope of securing a lenient sentence.

“I’ve learned lessons beyond what you can imagine,” Altice told the court, according to Salt Lake City Fox affiliate KSTU.
The divorced teacher also said her children need her.
The judge was not moved. He sentenced Altice to between one and 15 years for each teen she had sex with. Two of the sentences — but not all three, for some reason — must be served consecutively.
The charges against Altice grew steadily more serious.
Initially, she was arrested for having sex with just one male student. He was 16. She pleaded for mercy, claiming that four criminal charges against her should be dismissed because she was victimized by the teen lothario’s aggressive and very intent mission to bed her. Then, she was arrested once more for sex with an underage student while out on bail. Another student, then 17, came forward claiming that he engaged in sex — and oral sex — with Altice in 2013.
Finally, in Washington, D.C., prosecutors have dropped a charge of first-degree sexual-abuse against Symone Greene, a 22-year-old teacher who was arrested this fall for providing oral sex to a 17-year-old male student in her classroom, right behind the teacher’s desk.
At a D.C. Superior Court hearing on Thursday, Greene pleaded guilty to a single felony count of obstruction of justice, reports The Washington Post.
Her three-year prison sentence will be entirely suspended. She will also be forbidden from supervising minors for the duration of the sentence.
Greene was a substitute on the first day of her teaching assignment at Options Public Charter School.
The student, who is just five years younger than Greene, was a football player. He and Greene met in the morning and texted throughout the day.
In the afternoon, during a football pep rally, Greene and the student convened back in the classroom. He fondled her. She engaged in oral sex. The student asked Greene to engage in a number of sexual acts equal to the number on his football jersey. The oral sex incident became public knowledge because the student bragged to several people about it. Also, he filmed it.
