Carly Fiorina has taken a hard line against Planned Parenthood as a Republican presidential candidate, but in 2005 she invested in a health care website similar to WebMD that touted abortion benefits and directed users to Planned Parenthood.

The Revolution Health Group website assured users abortion is safe and directed them to pro-choice groups including Planned Parenthood for more information, but did not link to any pro-life groups or offer a pro-choice perspective. (RELATED: Fiorina Slams Trump For Defending Planned Parenthood)

Fiorina joined RHG as an investor and board member when it was founded in 2005. Her campaign did not respond to requests for comment regarding her knowledge of the issue page and whether she supported its message.

The website no longer exists, as it reportedly failed to turn a profit and was merged with health website publisher Waterfront Media in 2008. But the abortion issue page was archived in 2007.

“The sooner you take measures to end a pregnancy, the more medical choices you are likely to have and the less your risk of complications will be than with a later-term abortion,” the page said.

“Abortion procedures done by health professionals are very safe,” the page added. “To put abortion risk into perspective, childbirth is at least 7 times more risky than an abortion procedure.”

Users were directed only to Planned Parenthood, National Abortion Federation and NARAL for more information. Women were urged to “think through” their “choices,” but a pro-life perspective was not offered.

After the Center for Medical Progress released a series of undercover videos in which top Planned Parenthood doctors talk frankly about harvesting aborted fetuses for research, Fiorina said she would shut down the government to defund the non-profit.

“I know that the Democrats who will defend planned parenthood and late term abortion and the preposterous position that it’s not a life until it leaves the hospital,” Fiorina said on the Christian Broadcast Network in August. “I know Democrats are going to defend this up until the very last minute, but the majority of Americans will not.”

“I really hope it doesn’t come to [a shutdown], but honestly if we are not prepared to stand up and fight over this, what are we prepared to stand up and fight over?” she added.
