After freaking out that a spider was crawling on her lap, a 17-year-old girl driving a Pontiac TransAm caused a four-car pile up and sent 11 people to the hospital on Sunday.
The unidentified Kansas teenager reportedly saw the spider on her lap while driving down a highway in central Kansas, KSN News report, and immediately tried to kill the little arachnid — even at the expense of everyone’s safety. “While she was driving, she looked down, she saw a spider on her lap, she panicked and let go of the steering wheel with both hands and started swatting at the spider,” Kansas Highway Patrol Master Trooper Dave Jacobs told KSNW.
The girl’s car drifted into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a Jeep, according to police. The Jeep then rebounded off the girl’s Trans Am, sling-shot into a Dodge minivan, which sent debris catapulting into a Chevy Impala, KSNW reported.

The crash sent 11 people — including the 17-year-old spider hater — to the hospital. All but one person have since been released, according to the Associated Press. The hospital has not announced the seriousness of the injuries, or which person is still in the hospital.
Oct. 18 not only marked the fateful spider accident, but is also kicked-off National Teen Driver Safety Week, according to the National High Traffic Safety Administration, which is used to teach high schoolers the dangers of texting, speeding or drinking while behind the wheel.
