A retired police officer in Florida delivered some on the spot justice when he shot an armed bank robber.

Retired Jacksonville police officer Michael Kellam was waiting in the drive-through of the BBVA Compass bank in a Fruit Cove shopping center when he saw David Duong fleeing the building. Kellam engaged Duong in a physical altercation as he fled, shooting him multiple times after the robber reached for a handgun in his waistband, according to News4JAX.

Duong was finally captured by a St. John’s County deputy after trying to get to his getaway car with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was then airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to News4JAX. (RELATED: Bank Customer Shoots Armed Robber)

Witness Christina Ferraez described Duong as being in lots of pain following the shooting saying, “He tried to get up, but I guess it was painful or something, and he went back and he just put the hands like that to the cop and they put the white ties to him.” (RELATED: Former Marine Single-Handedly Stopped Four Thugs During Home Invasion)

Sheriff David Shoar credits Kellman’s quick thinking for foiling Duong’s plan, telling News4JAX, “I mean, he had this thing planned out. What he didn’t plan on was a citizen giving chase like he did.”
