The panel on CNN’s Sunday broadcast of “State of the Union” discussed remarks made by Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson before the Republican Jewish Coalition last week, and host Jake Tapper didn’t miss the opportunity to rip the former neurosurgeon with some equally cringe-worthy dad jokes.

Center for American Progress President Neera Tanden said that she was offended by both Carson’s and Donald Trump’s comments, prompting Tapper to add, “and we should probably point out that you’re not Jewish, even though everyone in the country thinks you are.”

Next, Tapper noted that Carson “pronounced the name of a terrorist group ‘hummus,'” like the chick-pea dip.

“That was pretty funny,” added former VA Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, who chimed in before Tapper finished with, “all we’re saying is to give pita chance.”

Finally, CNN contributor S.E. Cupp called Carson’s mispronunciation “startling.”

“Unless he was talking about the threat of chickpeas. You know, acid reflux.”
