GOP presidential candidate Sen. [crscore]Ted Cruz[/crscore]’s foreign policy adviser Victoria Coates at one point liked rival candidate Donald Trump so much she wanted him to serve as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

“We have people running this country who have absolutely no idea what they are doing,” Coates quoted Trump as saying on “Fox and Friends” back in 2011.

She also tweeted out in support of Trump switching up his role from business tycoon to U.S. diplomat.

“We need to find an alternative job for Donald Trump, who is making some good points,” Coates tweeted on April 12, 2011. “How about Ambassador to the UN? #hiretrump.”

Coates, formally trained as an art historian, joined Cruz’s staff in 2013 as senior national security adviser in the Senate. Following that position, she also took on the responsibility of being the Cruz campaign’s main foreign policy adviser after Cruz announced he was running for president.

Another Cruz staffer, Nick Muzin, also appears sympathetic to Trump. Back in 2013, Muzin, who serves as Cruz’s senior advisor, posted a picture of himself and Trump following a lunch meeting between the two.

“Just got out of a great lunch meeting with @realDonaldTrump! #tcot #gop #Trump,” Muzin tweeted.

Numerous outlets have pointed out that the two campaigns have maintained a cordial relationship during the 2016 presidential election race. Both Trump and Cruz have stated recently that they liked each other. Cruz has generally avoided attacking the Trump campaign, and Trump has mostly returned the favor. That relationship has hit rocky ground, however, with Cruz deriding Trump as not “stable,” and Trump saying that Cruz is a “nasty guy. Nobody likes him.”

Nevertheless, the two campaigns still are far more aligned than any other set in the race.

Neither the Cruz campaign nor Coates responded to a request for comment by press time on whether Coates still believes Trump would make a good ambassador to the UN.
