The 57-year-old singer was on his way from Atlanta to his home in Minnesota when his plane stopped in Illinois and he was taken to the hospital, a woman who was on the plane with him said in an interview with the New York Times Wednesday.

Judith Singer said she was talking to Prince when she got “very freaked out” because his “eyes fixed and he nodded off,” she said. “Thankfully, I happened to be looking into his face.” (RELATED: Prince Died From Opioid Overdose, Law Enforcement Reveals)

“We knew it was only a matter of time; we had to get down,” she said. “We didn’t have anything on the plane to help him.”

She said Prince was conscious and talking by the time the plane landed 18 minutes later.

“He never said anything, that this is hurting, never a sign of struggle. That’s why it’s all very shocking. He wasn’t dreary or drowsy, or anything.”

Prince died from an opioid overdose six days later. (RELATED: PRINCE — DEAD AT 57)
