They told us that if Donald Trump was elected president, Americans would be punished for exercising their free speech. What they didn’t tell us was that the ones doing all the cracking down would be the losers.
Scarlett Fakhar was a reporter on KRIV-TV — a Fox affiliate in Houston, Texas — until a post she made celebrating the election of Donald Trump on her personal Facebook page, which was set to private, was made public…
When news of her dismissal was made public, the Houston Chronicle characterized Fakhar’s original comments as incendiary, saying she was “extolling U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and chastising President Barack Obama and African-Americans.”
Fakhar said she likes and supports the president-elect, and she criticized the sitting president and his supporters. She spoke out against violence and racism. She said she loves capitalism and lowering taxes and legal immigration. For that, she was fired from her job at a local TV station, and a local paper called her a racist. (She’s of Iranian descent, if that matters in their identity politics-addled minds.)
Elsewhere, we’re seeing a panic about “fake news” on Facebook. Supposedly, the social-media equivalent of Weekly World News stories made all the difference in Election 2016. That shady article your Uncle Charlie shared about Trump winning the Amish vote kept Hillary Clinton out of the White House. So Facebook is promising a crackdown, and the free-speech-lovin’ press is cheering them on.
Twitter just banned a bunch of alt-right guys for supporting the wrong candidate and saying bad words. People can’t just mute or block those idiots and get on with their lives. The bad people can’t just be ignored. They need to be banned. They mustn’t be allowed to speak. Their words are dangerous.
After all, look at what just happened!
See, it’s not Hillary’s fault. It’s not the Democrats’ fault. They didn’t do this. We did this. We hurt them, very very badly. We must be punished.
Look, guys, nobody likes losing an election. Nobody likes working that hard to put somebody in office and then being humiliated. If you work in media and are therefore a Democrat, right now you’re trying to figure out why your plan didn’t work. You’re baffled that you couldn’t drag Grandma over the finish line. All the little tricks you’ve used to help Obama get what he wants couldn’t do the job this time, and now you’re lashing out at the people you believe are standing in your way.
I’m just not seeing that on the other side of the aisle. And I would know, because I’m living it. I’ve been criticizing Donald Trump almost every day for the past year, and I’ll continue to say what I think about him. At the Daily Caller. Nobody here is trying to shut me down. I know that not everybody here likes what I have to say, but they’re not trying to keep me from saying it. That’s how free speech works.
That’s how America works.
This is why you lost, libs. By all means, keep going. It’s the only way you know.
