President Donald Trump said Thursday morning that he is in favor of raising the debt ceiling, but he notably called out Republicans in 2013 for doing just that.
Trump tweeted Thursday that he requested that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan attach a measure to raise the debt ceiling to the recently-passed Veterans Affairs bill. He then went on to blame McConnell and Ryan for failing to follow through with his request and said raising the debt ceiling “could have been easy,” but now the situation is “a mess.”
