Washington Capitals star T.J. Oshie took a brutal hit Monday night against the San Jose Sharks.
Oshie went into the corner when Sharks star Joe Thorton laid a head shot on him that immediately put him on the ice.
I was at this game last night, and you could hear a pin drop when Oshie went down. It was dead silent as the crowd waited for him to get up, which he ultimately did. Oshie isn’t just one of the Caps best players, but he’s incredibly popular ever since his Olympic heroics.
You hate to see anybody take a hit like this, and you especially hate it for a guy like Oshie. I don’t think there was anything malicious here. Thorton’s timing was just bad with where Oshie’s head was at the time of contact. That’s sometimes just hockey. It can get ugly.
Luckily, the Caps star seemed to be OK as he left the ice. Scary hit that probably could have been much worse. Hopefully he bounces back quickly.
