Elisabeth Borne, transport minister of France, called the crash a “terrible accident” and said she is going to the scene, located 530 miles from Paris.
“All my thoughts for the victims of this terrible accident involving a school bus, as well as their families. The state is fully mobilized to help them,” said French president Emmanuel Macron.
Witnesses say the bus was “cut in two,” reported Express.
“The shock was very violent and we had the impression that the train was going to derail,” said one witness.
SNCF, the railway company on whose track the accident occurred, offered “a heartfelt message of support to the victims and their families.”
The 25 train passengers did not suffer any injuries.
