Mark Wahlberg can’t seem to get his story straight on why he bailed on the New England Patriots when it looked like they were going to lose in the Super Bowl.

Wahlberg would love for you to believe he’s the biggest Pats fan on the planet, but nothing could be farther from the truth. To make things worse, he’s repeatedly used his son as an excuse for committing the ultimate sin against your team and something isn’t adding up.

Everyone remembers how Super Bowl LI played out–how could you possibly forget? At one point the Patriots trailed 28-3 to the Atlanta Falcons and that’s about when Wahlberg decided he couldn’t take it anymore and left the stadium with his family. Of course, Tom Brady then led the Patriots to the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history with a thrilling 34-28 victory in overtime. And Wahlberg wasn’t there!

After the self-proclaimed Patriots superfan received criticism for being a fair weather fan and bailing on his team, he threw one of his sons under the bus, claiming he wasn’t feeling well. (RELATED: Mark Wahlberg Introduces The Patriots He Walked Out On At The Super Bowl)

“I had to leave the game early because my youngest son wasn’t feeling well,” Wahlberg wrote in a social media post. “Trust me, I would have loved to be at the stadium–but family first. Doesn’t mean I don’t love my Patriots too!”

In a recent interview with Men’s Health Wahlberg gave another explanation, again blaming his 8-year-old son Brendan for his early departure from the big game.

“He was spitting out F-bombs and going crazy. It was bad,” Wahlberg said. “He was lying down on the carpet. He was very upset.”

Everybody knows New Englanders are notorious for their foul mouths, but I’m not sure I believe Mark Wahlberg’s 8-year-old son was firing off expletives worthy of an early departure from the Super Bowl. It sounds like Mark has something to hide if you ask me.

You can lie to yourself all you want, Marky Mark, but the true Patriots fans deserve to know the truth.
