Democratic West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin made a strange sports car analogy Wednesday on MSNBC when asked about his position on banning the sales of AR-15s.

Co-host of “Morning Joe” Willie Giest asked Manchin what his position was on making the AR-15 illegal for civilians — Manchin didn’t have an answer.

“They’re sold now legally. I am not going to weigh in on that at this point in time,” he said. “I don’t have a desire to buy one. I don’t own one.”

“Willie, let’s put it this way. I have a lot of friends who have sports cars. And I’ve seen them. Two hundred miles an hour on the speedometer. Two miles an hour. Do you think they’re going to go 200,” Manchin asked. “But they think they can, or it will if they want it to.”

Geist was confused by the answer as Manchin struggled to string together a coherent sentence.

“I don’t know, on this one here. That is a difficult one,” Manchin concluded. “There’s not enough votes to pass that — to repeal that.”
