Joy Behar took a swipe at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday, suggesting that his response to protesters outside a Georgetown event was cowardly. “Man up, Mitch, okay?” she said. “Don’t leave your wife out there to handle this.”

Whoopi Goldberg showed the video of McConnell’s wife, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, confronting protesters while her husband remained inside a vehicle.

McConnell was preparing to leave a Georgetown University event when immigration policy protesters approached his vehicle, asking why he was separating families.

Chao responded to protesters before she got into the vehicle with her husband. She asked, “Why don’t you leave my husband alone?”

Goldberg posed the question, regarding the protesters, asking, “Is it a good tactic? A bad tactic?”

Behar interrupted then, saying, “Let me just point out that McConnell himself was in the car. It’s like, man up, Mitch, okay? Don’t leave your wife out there to handle this.”

Sunny Hostin argued that whether or not the tactic was working, it was important to recognize that it was legal. She explained, “I don’t understand why people feel that public officials, public servants, can’t be asked about their service.”
