Liberal activists and journalists are melting down over Justice Anthony Kennedy announcing his retirement from the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Kennedy, who has served as the court’s swing vote for decades, has now opened the door for President Donald Trump to finally give conservatives their long-desired court majority. (RELATED: Kennedy Calls It Quits: Longtime Swing Justice Hands Trump The Biggest Gift Of His Presidency)
Progressives immediately reacted to Kennedy’s retirement with fear, anger, and sadness.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

For starters, abortion rights are more imperiled now than at any time since Roe v. Wade. And there is no reason to think there won’t be a rollback of gay rights, either, with Kennedy gone. https://t.co/awg2oC5uYl

We have no choice but to organize, strategize, vote and act. Ambivalent attitudes are not a option! All civil and human rights are at stake. What side are you on? https://t.co/rCo4u70u6l

As a member of the LGBTQ community, Justice Kennedy being replaced threatens my rights. It also threatens the rights of minorities, women and Muslims. Trump must not be allowed to replace him before November. Let the people speak first.

How very cool of Justice Kennedy to pour kerosene on the current dumpster fire that is America. The Roe v Wade riots should provide fine entertainment for him in his retirement.

Fuck. You. Justice. Kennedy.https://t.co/q6Asq83WJL

we may have just left the point at which we could rely on democratic norms to fix our government, and are now on the road to literal revolution! #kennedy

Kennedy has made a very obvious choice about what kind of person he wants his replacement to be. That, or he genuinely doesn’t care because he knows he’s going to be okay no matter what. Both are bad.

Justice Kennedy has announced his retirement effective July 31. If you aren’t already “woke,” it’s time to get up.
Mark November 6, 2018, on your calendar if you care about working people. And mark every day until then to organize and stop the theft of our democracy.

Justice Kennedy is retiring.
Dont be surprised to see Judge Jeanine Pirro on the shortlist.
This is fucking scary.

Kennedy been trash but this decision is worst!
— Phillip Henry (@MajorPhilebrity) June 27, 2018
It’s one gut punch after another right now, Folks. (And while Kennedy has been decidedly conservative of late, his replacement is sure to be worse by an order magnitude.) https://t.co/KrzhQAX3bT

UPDATE: Anthony Kennedy to be replaced by a futuristic device that simply makes your nightmares real,. Asked about the legal wisdom of such an appointment, the president reportedly said, “Enjoy, motherfuckers!”
— Melville House (@melvillehouse) June 27, 2018
Kennedy gone from the U.S. Supreme Court. Yup. Hillary and Trump were the same. Thank you Bernie types who sat out because of spite. All that white economic anxiety folks. Trump’s Supreme Court will have their own version of the Dred Scott decision.

The man who upheld the #MuslimBan yesterday just paved the way to repeal Roe v Wade tomorrow.#Kennedy https://t.co/xL6IUs4LZp

Kennedy made this decision knowing Trump would get to replace him.
He is not a good guy.

Justice Kennedy’s retirement is a catastrophe for liberals. Abortion access, same-sex marriage, voting rights, environmental regulations—they’re all on the line now. This is nothing short of a crisis for the left. https://t.co/J9QK4CBwkQ
