Police Rescue 7-Year-Old Boy From Window After Standoff With Stabbing Suspect

A 7 year old boy who was trapped by a stabbing suspect was rescued from a house on Samoset Street in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

The boy was reportedly barricaded into the house with the suspect, identified as Herman Smith, 50, late Saturday night, according to a Plymouth Police Department Facebook post.

A standoff ensued after police were alerted to a stabbing that occurred on the same street, according to NBC Boston. SWAT team members arrived to the house, reportedly finding Smith hidden in a closet. (RELATED: Shocking Video Shows Rescue Of Child Dangling From Balcony)

The standoff lasted for hours as Smith reportedly refused to exit the residence and free the child, according to the Plymouth Police Department’s post. The young boy was rescued from a second-story window, according to NBC Boston.

Smith’s charges include assault to murder while armed, child endangerment, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to Boston 25 News reporter Julianne Lima.

The stabbing victim was transported to South Shore Hospital. Police stated that the victim had serious injuries but they were not life-threatening, according to the police statement. No one else was reported as injured besides the initial stabbing victim, according to Plymouth Police.

The suspect was taken into custody, according to the post.
