Four Maryland middle school students are being treated after consuming a “drug-laced” candy given to them by a classmate, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Students at Parkville Middle School in Baltimore were transported on Wednesday to a nearby hospital after reporting feeling ill and lethargic, according to the Baltimore Sun. The students allegedly consumed a candy containing THC, a psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.
“I ask that you please speak with your children and remind them about the dangers of drug use and consuming unknown substances,” Parkville Middle School Principal Micah Wiggins wrote to parents, according to the Sun. “Any student who is caught distributing drugs or other prohibited items will receive serious consequences and will be referred to law enforcement.”
The students are not in critical condition, the Sun reported. The Baltimore County Police Department and the Parkville Middle School school resource officer are conducting investigations into the incidents. (RELATED: ‘Thank God For Narcan’: Schools Fight Fentanyl Crisis With Medication, Education)

Once the investigations conclude, consequences will be administered to students following the school handbook, the Sun stated.
“We realize this may be upsetting to our students and want to make you aware of the situation,” Wiggins wrote in his letter, according to WBAL News. “Our counselor will be available to meet with any students to provide additional support.”
The Baltimore Police Department and Parkville Middle School did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
