A former CNN international correspondent is suing the network for allegedly firing her unfairly and racially discrimination agains her after she was injured on the job.

Saima Mohsin, the former CNN reporter, was permanently disabled after a cameraman ran over her foot with a car while she was reporting on-the-ground in Israel in 2014, The Guardian reported. The accident left her struggling to sit, stand, walk or return to work.

Mohsin alleged that CNN refused her requests for alternative roles and support for rehabilitation, the outlet reported. The network allegedly told her she did not “have the look” for a television role rather than travel, according to the outlet.

Three years after the accident, CNN fired Mohsin from the network, the outlet reported. She then filed an employment tribunal claim alleging the network did not support her after her injury. (RELATED: Trump To Sue CNN)

“I was injured on assignment for CNN. They fired me. We risk our lives in the field trusting we’ll be taken care of I’m suing for unfair dismissal, disability & race discrimination. CNN wants my case thrown out Big week for me at Employment Tribunal,” she said in a Twitter statement.

She further alleged the network racially discriminated against her by handing white correspondents the high-end on-air opportunities even when she was prepared to go live, the outlet reported.

“This should cause concern for all foreign correspondents who travel around the world – and take risks to do their journalism in the belief their employer will take care of them. I’m also taking the opportunity to highlight the racism and gender pay gap issues that I experienced,” she said in a statement to The Guardian.

“I was repeatedly let down and denied the ability to achieve my potential while I was at CNN. I am bringing my claim to take a stand and call for change to ensure women journalists, and women journalists of colour, are better protected,” she continued.

Mohsin now works as a freelancer for Sky News and has a program on ITV about the ongoing struggles she faces from her disability, the outlet reported.

Former President Donald Trump is also suing the network for alleged “repeated defamatory statements.” He filed a Notice of Intent in July 2022.

The Daily Caller has reached out to CNN for comment and will update as necessary.
