Los Angeles police reportedly arrested boxing star Devin Haney on Thursday, after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of a semi-automatic handgun in his car.

Authorities said Haney was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for making an unsafe lane change, and failing to use a turn signal. The driver of the vehicle told police there was a firearm in the vehicle at the time police pulled them over, according to TMZ. Police asked Haney and his security guard to exit the vehicle as they proceeded to search the car. A semi-automatic handgun was reportedly located under the driver’s seat during the search, TMZ reported.

Police noted that, when questioned, neither Haney nor his guard admitted to owning the gun. Haney was arrested and charged with felony possession of a concealed weapon because he was the registered owner of the vehicle in which the gun was found, TMZ explained.

Haney was released from jail at 8:12 a.m. Thursday on $35,000 bail, according to TMZ.  A court hearing on the matter has been scheduled for some time in August. (Famous Boxer Deontay Wilder Arrested For Possession Of Concealed Weapon)

The world champion lightweight holds a 30-0 record and had just come off a big win over Vasiliy Lomachenko. He was leaving Hollywood hot spot Catch L.A. when police pulled over the vehicle in which he was riding, per TMZ.

Haney has recorded impressive wins over Loma, George Kambosos Jr., Joseph Diaz Jr. and Yuriorkis Gamboa, and is considered to be among the greatest boxers fighting today.
