The Civil Rights watchdog group New Tolerance Campaign is demanding answers regarding a report that Oregon Health and Science University denied a patient cancer treatment due to her views on transgenderism.

A woman receiving cancer treatment at the Portland area hospital reportedly complained about a transgender flag hanging prominently in the entrance of the facility.

“I have been threatened on Twitter by transactivists [sic] with rape and death — so it is daunting to go for medical treatment with that banner proclaiming that what I am — and adult human female…is a mere opt-in category for any gender non-conforming male,” the woman wrote in a message to the hospital. The patient then alleged that the hospital sent her an message announcing that “effective immediately” she was “discharged from receiving medical care.”

“This action is being taken because of ongoing disrespectful and hateful remarks about our LGBTQ community and staff.”

“We know cancel culture can cost people their jobs — now, it can cost you your life,” Gregory T. Angelo, president of the watchdog group, said. “The public has a right to know why the OHSU Board of Directors values social issues over health, and our campaign in support of Marlene allows everyday Americans to do exactly that.”

The hospital told the Daily Caller that patient privacy laws prohibit them from commenting on a patient without that individual’s consent and instead referred the Caller to its policies on patients rights and responsibilities.

“An OHSU patient has a right to care that is delivered in a way that is free from abuse, discrimination or harassment based on age, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, culture, language, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, physical or mental disability, religion, socioeconomic status, marital status, military or reserve status, or any other status protected by law,” the hospital policies read, in a portion referenced to the Caller.

“OHSU patients, families and visitors have a responsibility to refrain from using discriminatory, profane, derogatory or threatening language, imagery or behavior, and understand that these behaviors can result in limitation of visiting privileges and impact access to care at OHSU.”

New Tolerance is urging people to send an email to Oregon Health & Science University Chairman Wayne Monfries expressing concern at the hospital’s recent alleged actions.

“If you think this is an isolated problem that only people in Oregon should care about, think again. Medical tyranny is spreading across the country, and the stakes could not be higher. If people in need can be denied medical care because their views don’t align with leftist dogma, then we have entered a dark new era of cancel culture that — quite literally — has deadly consequences.”
