EXCLUSIVE: Internal House GOP Memo Asserts Liberal Policy, Not Climate Change, Caused Maui Fires

An internal memo from the Republican Study Committee (RSC) that will be circulated among the House GOP asserts that far-left policies, not climate change, is the reason for the Maui wildfires.

The memo has several different sections, according to a copy obtained by the Daily Caller. The first section, “The Left’s Reaction to Wildfires in 2023,” in the memo states that political figures on the left side of the spectrum and mainstream media outlets are politicizing wildfires to advance a green agenda.

The second section, “Debunking Climate Alarmism,” states that the U.S. Geological Survey says “there is not a direct relationship between climate change and fire” and that a majority of wildfires in the U.S. and Canada are caused by humans.

The third section of the memo, “Liberal Policies and Federal Land Mismanagement,” lays out what the RSC believes are the main issues with much of “far-left” climate policies and that there needs to be more focus on taking care of federal land instead of implementing all new climate policies.

The fourth section describes policy solutions the RSC believes will help on this issue, such as promoting active management, holding agencies accountable and bolstering energy security.

“These radical activists want to scare the public into supporting regressive, unproven, so-called ‘green’ policies, but the reality is that many of these policies exacerbate issues like wildfires. The number one most effective way we can combat wildfires is through proactive land management, but far-left policies have prevented our foresters from things like clearing highly flammable underbrush,” Hern told the Caller.

“The Left believes that orange skies and airborne smoke will scare Americans into going along with their heavy-handed climate agenda and domineering environmental policies. Instead, they should serve as a wake-up call for conservatives to counter the Left’s false narratives. Conservatives must force Democrats to acknowledge the failures of the environmental policies they consider ‘bedrock’ and advance reforms that will truly protect people and the planet while unleashing economic prosperity,” the memo states. “Ultimately, the vast federal estate belongs to the American people, and it will be up to Conservatives to steer the government away from climate alarmism and towards responsible active stewardship,” the memo concludes.
