Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz on Wednesday blasted the Biden administration’s transfer of $6 billion dollars to Iran in exchange for five American hostages, claiming that the money “will go directly to fund terrorism.”

“The exact quote from Iran’s president was that the funds will be used quote, ‘wherever we need it.’ And it is a metaphysical certainty that this money will be used to fund terrorism. Why? Because Iran’s the leading state sponsor of terrorism in the world,” Cruz said on his “Verdict with Ted Cruz” podcast.

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken signed a blanket waiver last week for $6 billion in seized Iranian assets to be transferred from South Korea to Qatar, the country responsible for giving the funds back to Iran. Five Iranian prisoners will be released along with the “ransom” payment in exchange for five American prisoners. (RELATED: Trump Torches ‘Incompetent’ Biden’s $6 Billion Iranian Hostage Trade)

Cruz claimed that Biden administration is revitalizing a nuclear deal with Iran “in secret” because “they know they can’t get it through Congress.” President Donald Trump pulled out of the Iranian nuclear deal in May 2018, reimposing economic sanctions. The abandoned agreement was originally reached in 2015 under the Obama administration.

“This creates an incentive for every tin pot dictator in the world to seize more Americans,” Cruz said. “They’re setting the going rate at 1.2 billion per American hostage. More Americans will be taken hostage because of this, and to do it on the anniversary of 9/11 is disgusting and it’s dangerous.”

The hostage deal moved forward on the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.
