The exclusive video footage obtained by Local 10 News has shed light on the attempted truck theft that took place in Bay Harbor Islands last month.

The incident happened at around 3 p.m. on Sept. 21, Bay Harbor Islands police said, according to Local 10 News. In the footage, a Mercedes Benz can be seen parked in front of a driveway. The driver of the Mercedes waited until a truck passed by before alighting from the vehicle.

Wearing white gloves, the man then reportedly approached the targeted truck and allegedly attempted to open its locked doors. Meanwhile, the driver of the Mercedes was reportedly attempting to break into other cars in the vicinity.

The thieves left empty-handed. Luckily, the surveillance video provided evidence for the authorities, not only in Bay Harbor Islands but also in neighboring areas.

This incident follows recent reports of car thefts in the area, including the high-profile theft of a limited-edition purple Rolls-Royce in North Miami. The owner of the stolen vehicle, Bob Benyo, said that the car was valued at over $200,000, and it has a sentimental value as it was an anniversary gift for his wife. Benyo said there’s a possibility that the thief cloned the remote key clickers to gain access to their car. Authorities suspect a connection between these cases. The surge in car thefts has left many residents in South Florida concerned about their safety and property.

“I come from New York so I’m kind of used to it. I lock everything, for the last 4 years. I lock my home doors, my car doors, put the alarm on. It’s out of control. People can’t afford to live like they used to,” a man said to Local News 10.
