Kansas basketball coach Bill Self live tweeted the entire 2008 national title victory over Memphis when it re-aired on TV Sunday.
CBS aired the epic Sunday because March Madness isn’t happening this year, and Self hopped onto Twitter to share his thoughts as it happened. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)
Coming out of twitter retirement to live tweet during the 2008 National Championship game at 11 AM CT on CBS. I feel pretty good about this one.

These are obviously new times for everyone. I hope net flix can be put on hold this morning and watch our Jayhawks. Tip off in about 30 minutes.

I’ve seen this game 50 times. But not in a decade. Exited to watch.

Mario with those fast hands. Brandon. You got to finish.
— Bill Self (@CoachBillSelf) March 22, 2020
Ok. Slow start. But I know I told guys. The game really starts now. We’re active both both ends. But so is Memphis. They are terrific defensively as well. And how about those shorts.

College bb was so good in 2008. All four #1 seeds made it to San Antonio. And we were the lowest rated one. Which means we got the worst hotel of the four.
— Bill Self (@CoachBillSelf) March 22, 2020
I don’t believe Memphis has scored in about 4 minutes. Both teams so athletic. This years team not as big or deep but comparable athletically.

Felt good at halftime. Did a great job on D Rose. But we knew he could get 20 in a half. And he almost did. 20 or let’s say 25 minutes from a pretty good night.

We can NOT make a shot.
— Bill Self (@CoachBillSelf) March 22, 2020
Ok. They have momentum. I made mistake. Had done a good job on Derrick. Then I go box and 1 a possession. He makes a 3 to get going. I’m an idiot.
— Bill Self (@CoachBillSelf) March 22, 2020
Don’t worry folks. We’ve got them over confident. We just can’t score. Their defense was good. And I have no idea what to tell our guys on what will work.
— Bill Self (@CoachBillSelf) March 22, 2020
Watch how we celebrate and get back in line to shake hands. We had so much respect for situation and Memphis.

What a game. What a team what a group of individuals. They spoiled us. What a privilege to be their coach. Joe Kurtis Danny Ronnie Mike Lee, what a staff. Thanks for giving me the ride of my life. Love you all.

I hope this provided a little entertainment during these times. Stay safe and healthy.

This was such a cool thing for Self to do to entertain everyone isolating from coronavirus Sunday. It’s worth noting it was the first time he tweeted since May 2019!
I think coming out of Twitter retirement to live tweet the 2008 national title game is absolutely worth it.
That game will forever go down as one of the greatest college basketball games ever played.
Mario Chalmers hitting that shot at the end of the game was absolutely chilling. I remember watching that live and being absolutely stunned.
Derrick Rose was the best player on the floor, but Kansas was such a complete team.
Props to Bill Self for giving us all something to smile about this past Sunday. We need anything and everything we can get to lift our spirits.
