Christine Baumgartner, the wife of Kevin Costner filed for divorce Monday, putting an end to their 18-year marriage.

The reasons behind the breakdown of their relationship remain unclear at this time. Court documents indicate Christine cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split, according to TMZ.

A representative of the famous actor addressed the situation but didn’t offer any insight to what happened between Kevin and Christine behind the scenes.

“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” the rep said, according to TMZ. “We ask that his, Christine’s and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”

Christine and Kevin, who has most recently starred in “Yellowstone,” share 3 children ages 12, 14 and 15. Sources close to the situation said that in spite of their differences, both Kevin and Christine have agreed on one thing – they have both asked for joint custody of their children, according to TMZ.

Famous celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser has been retained to represent Kevin, according to TMZ.

“Spousal support to be payable to petitioner pursuant to the terms of the parties’ Premarital Agreement,” Wasser said, as she confirmed a prenup is in place for this couple.
