Dan Hurley is staying a Husky!

The head coach of the UConn men’s basketball program made the decision Monday to turn down the Los Angeles Lakers’ offer of six years, $70 million and will remain the skipper of the Huskies, according to ESPN.

The 51-year-old Hurley spoke Sunday with ESPN and stated that Los Angeles had a “compelling case” and that both franchise owner Jeanie Buss and general manager Rob Pelinka left him “extremely impressed.” (RELATED: NBA Legend Chet Walker Dead At 84)

Currently the reigning back-to-back national champion, Hurley was in Los Angeles for a Friday meeting with the Lakers. The next night, Saturday, he went to a Billy Joel concert at MSG with his wife Andrea, as well as UConn assistant coach Luke Murray.

Hurley’s decision to remain a Husky follows the Lakers firing Darvin Ham after he was in charge for only two seasons. In the second campaign, the Lakers were bounced from the playoffs after suffering a first round elimination.

Okay, so the Lakers can either go to their original idea in JJ Redick, or their contingency plan in Jay Wright (if he’s interested). If I were a betting man, and I am, I’m taking JJ for the sole fact that I don’t think Wright is going to be interested.
