Jack Black decided to cancel his entire career via social media Tuesday in what seems like a totally over-the-top response to him engaging in a really messed up situation.

Black and his bandmate Kyle Gass, who perform together under the name Tenacious D, went viral Monday after the latter made heinous comments against former President Donald Trump during a live show in Sydney, Australia. When asked to make a “birthday wish,” Gass said, “don’t miss Trump next time.” His comment was in reference to the assassination attempt against the former president Saturday evening, an attack that killed one man and seriously injured two more. To Gass, Black replied: “thank you.”

Black and Gass were hit by mass backlash. Hours later, Black told fans that he was “blindsided by what was said at the show” and that he “would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form,” even though that is literally what he did, by definition.

Instead of apologizing, Black fell on his visible ego-derived sword in what can only be called the most pedantic tantrum I’ve ever seen from an allegedly grown ass man.

“After much reflection” — a few hours — “I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold.” (RELATED: Honestly, What The F*** Is Peter Dinklage Whining About?)

Listen, I completely understand if Black and Gass had a falling out over the exchange. I also wouldn’t be surprised if both men are scared for their safety, despite Trump supporters kind of proving that they’re not the violent type. It’s not like anyone used the assassination attempt as an excuse to go rioting in the streets, burning down buildings, destroying businesses and attacking people.

Black should have ponied up and apologized for engaging in something so messed up instead of lying about “reflecting” on it for “much” time. He should also stop being such a little stooge for a political party who use him like a cheap party trick. (RELATED: Award-Winning Actor Dev Patel Stops Knife Fight)

Perhaps Black was actually “blindsided” in the moment, but his reaction to other people’s reaction is disappointing. He seems to only care about himself and not the nine or 10 fans he’s got left. Better yet, Gass should have apologized, even though literally no one knows who he is and probably couldn’t pick him out of a police lineup.

My prayer is that one day, in this great nation, a liberal man will stand tall and proudly accept responsibility for his behavior … instead of acting like a pathetic, whiny girl.
