A Hillary Clinton ally said recently Joe Biden could have a tough time beating her in the 2016 Democratic primary because he’s old and conventional.

“At least Obama had the Iraq War vote and could make a case about generational change,” the unnamed ally told New York magazine. “This guy [Biden] is older than she is and just as conventional.”

The Clinton camp began conducting opposition research on Biden a month ago through the super PAC Correct the Record in preparation for his possible entrance into the race. (RELATED: Hillary Plans To Be More Spontaneous)

A source close to the Clinton campaign told New York Magazine researchers have so far “turned up” material on Biden’s Wall Street ties, his unease over President Barack Obama’s decision to authorize the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, and his handling of the Anita Hill sex assault hearings as Senate Judiciary Committee chair.

Clinton’s obviously taking the possible Biden threat seriously, but at least this one ally doesn’t seem too concerned. “Even implicitly his campaign’s argument would be ‘I have integrity and you don’t,'” the ally added. “If that’s the message, this could be messier than Obama-Clinton ’08.”

Recent polls continue to show a lot of voters don’t think Clinton is honest. Support for clinton among white women dropped 29 points in September due to what an Associated Press reporter called “questions about her honesty, her trustworthiness, her authenticity.” (RELATED: Has Hillary Clinton Lost Women Voters?)
