Arizona State’s football program is reportedly under investigation.
According to Pete Thamel at Yahoo Sports, the NCAA has opened an investigation into Herm Edwards and the Sun Devils after “a dossier of dozens of pages” alleging NCAA violations was sent to ASU’s athletic department. Most notably, the Sun Devils are accused of hosting multiple recruits when on-campus visits were banned during the coronavirus pandemic. Yahoo pegs the number of recruits who violated the ban at around 30. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)e
The NCAA and Arizona State have a dossier of screenshots, receipts, pictures and emails related to potential violations within Arizona State’s football program, sources told @YahooSports. Sources detail the extent of illegal COVID recruiting visits: https://t.co/KrvI0EWWhq

Thamel wrote in part, “Sources said members of the football program deliberately, blatantly and consistently broke rules related to hosting players during the dead period, including coach Herm Edwards meeting with recruits.”
When asked about the situation by Yahoo, Herm Edwards replied with, “No comment thanks.”

Do I think Herm Edwards will lose his job over this if the allegations are proven true? Probably not. As far as I can tell, there’s no allegations of paying players or crimes being covered up. It’s recruiting violations.
Now, will Edwards potentially face punishment if the Sun Devils blatantly ignored NCAA rules on banning on-campus visits?
Sure, but it could end up being pretty minimal in the long run.

As long as nothing else is found, I’d find it very hard to believe that Edwards goes down with the ship. He’s 17-13 during his time with the Sun Devils, and ASU is the most relevant they’ve been in years.
I just can’t see him getting fired over something like this.
