Cher’s Mother, Georgia Holt, Dead At Age 96

Superstar singer Cher took to Twitter Saturday to announce the death of her mother, Georgia Holt.

Holt was 96 years old at the time of her death, according to People. Her exact cause of death has not been stated. Cher said she had lost her mother with a simple text that simply read, “Mom is gone,” alongside a sad faced emoji. Cher had been forthcoming with fans about her mother’s ailing health in recent years.

The 76-year old music legend has often spoken about the bond she shared with her mother on social media and many of her 4 million fans were quick to chime in with messages of support and deep condolences.

Holt had an active career in the entertainment industry as an actress, model and singer. She played a role in the 1950’s hit  “Watch the Birdie”and was most famous for her involvement in “I Love Lucy”, according to People. Holt also famously appeared on “The Mike Douglas Show” and “The Merv Griffin Show.” She released her debut musical album “Honky Tonk Woman” in 2013 in spite of having recorded it in the 80s, according to people. Cher posted that her mother was hospitalized with a case of pneumonia in September, according to People. “Sorry I’ve Been Mia. Mom’s Been Sick Off & On. She Just Got Out Of Hosp. She Had Pneumonia,” Cher wrote at the time. She later sent a follow up message to Twitter which read,  “She’s Getting Better.” She died just three months later.
