Piers Morgan said Monday that “woke” Prince Harry and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle should not attend King Charles III’s coronation.
Charles is reportedly hopeful that his son Harry will attend the coronation scheduled for May 6, 2023. The king inherited the throne following the death of his late mother Queen Elizabeth II in September.
“I can’t think of two people that I’d rather see there than the bosom of our royal family,” Morgan sarcastically said on “Fox & Friends.” “Celebrating all the great things about the monarchy they spend the last two years trashing. No, I don’t want to see these two pieces of work anywhere near this country around the time of the coronation and I’ll tell you why. If you spend, as they have done, week after week, month after month, denigrating the institution of the monarchy, causing it real damage, to the effect now that all the polling, all the poll rates of all the royals have come down because of what these two have been doing.”
“The idea they would have the brass neck, frankly, to come over here from their California mansion to pop up and watch Charles get declared our king and be crowned with his queen consort who they also trashed, I think is completely unthinkable,” he continued.
The prince and duchess left the royal family in Jan. 2020 and moved to Los Angeles, California, where they currently reside with their two children. Tensions have boiled between the couple and the royal family after Meghan accused them of racism against her and the couple’s first child. A new multi-part Netflix documentary called “Harry & Meghan” gives their perspective inoffensive their conflicts with the royal family before they departed for the U.S. It has since deepened the rift between the prince and his own relatives.
“This is Charles’ son,” Morgan added. “I don’t think any of them care about Meghan Markle, but for Charles, it’s very personal. He has two children, and one of them has gone woke. So what does he do? Does he ostracize him, does he send him away forever, or does he try and show him an olive branch of reconciliation? The problem he’s got is his other son, Prince William, he’s incandescent with rage about what Harry has been doing.”
He argued that the vast majority of the British people, whose taxpayer dollars go toward the coronation, do not want the prince or duchess at the coronation, believing they will use the traditional event for their own publicity.
